Bollywood Strike Over: Get ready for New York
Bollywood fans can dance around the trees, the stand-off between producers and multiplex owners is over. With only B-grade flicks, reruns of old hits, and regional cinema on offer for the past few months, audiences are eager for fresh content at the box office.First of the biggies is Yash Raj Films New York. Buzz for the film actually started at the end of 2008, when the trailer was released with Shah Rukh Khan vehicle Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. YRF's latest is all set for a worldwide release on 26th June 2009.
Directed by Kabir Khan and Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film sees John Abraham and Katrina Kaif together in their first outing. After John raised temperatures in his yellow trunks in Dostana, the actor is all set to go one step further, with reports he stripped for one scene. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan also star in this highly anticipated project.
New York is a contemporary story of friendship set against the larger than life backdrop of a city often described as the centre of the world. For most of us, larger events in the world are just headlines in the newspapers but these events can change our lives... forever. New York is one such story of 3 young friends whose beautiful lives are turned upside down by larger events beyond their control.

First look at 'Pyaar Impossible'
Actor-turned-director Jugal Hansraj directs Priyanka Chopra and Uday Chopra in “Pyaar Impossible”, a Yash Raj Films romantic comedy, which went on floors this April.The film's shooting is currently on in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Pyaar Impossible” is the story of Abhay and Alisha – Abhay who is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged and bespectacled geek and Alisha who is the epitome of beauty that any man would willingly rip his heart out for!
And when these two worlds collide you get: 1 Beauty + 1 Geek = Pyaar Impossible!
Shahid Kapur signs another Yash Raj film
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapur seems to have become Yash Raj Films' (YRF) favourite. His first venture with the production giant is yet to hit the screens, but the actor has already signed another film with the banner.Shahid's first film with YRF is being directed by Anurag Singh. He has teamed up with Rani Mukerji in the film, which was earlier titled "Hadippa", which is said to be about cricket.
The second project that Shahid has been signed up for will be actor Parmeet Sethi's directorial debut and he teams up with Anushka Sharma of "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" fame.
"The Yash Raj camp sees Shahid as the classic romantic hero who has the potential to turn on the sexy or rugged vibe when required," said a source close to the actor.
Saif goes Dhoom over SRK
Saif may have missed all the action in Yash Raj Films' popcorn action series Dhoom and Dhoom 2 and instead preferred to be mushy in their Hum Tum. But the latest we hear is that SRK has turned down the Dhoom sequel, and that spells good news for Saif.
King Khan, who is known to ‘never say no’ to the Chopras, has apparently conveyed the news of unavailable dates till late 2010. Shahrukh is said to have stated health reasons to skip this flick. After his shoulder surgery and the regular strain on his back, Sharukh has decided to not do movies with excessive action scenes. That effectively rules out Dhoom 3 for him.
So now it is a change of plan for the film’s director Aditya Chopra, who has decided to direct the film himself, and has roped in another Khan- Saif Ali Khan for the role.
Rumour mills were working hard when Aamir was touted for the role, replacing Abhishek Bachchan, but Aamir has turned down the project. Though Aamir’s reasons are however unclear, we hear that Aamir is said to be unhappy with the good guy role. Well, we don’t blame him, as in the Dhoom series the baddies are the ones to steal the show. John Abraham’s bike scenes in Dhoom is most remembered as he plays Kabir, the gang’s leader. In the sequel, Hrithik Roshan will never be forgotten for playing mastermind thief known only as Mr. A because he leaves an 'A' symbol after each robbery, and more so because he got to lip lock with Aishwarya Rai (just before she got married to Jr. B). While Jr. B, Abhishek Bachchan who has played the cop (the good guy) in both films has hardly got his due.
The second set of rumour went out that Saif will play the role initially written for Shah Rukh Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan will be the cop, replacing Aamir Khan. Not only that, but Zayed Khan will replace Uday Chopra, who will be seen in the film albeit a special appearance. On the other hand, Rani Mukherjee was being decided for the female lead! We wonder why? Rani's neither hot not tall nor sexy… Absolute prerequisite for Dhoom.
Nobody seems to know the other casting changes the Chopras are contemplating on this project. For what we can tell you even before the script is ready, they are engrossed in the stylization and casting of the film.
Now we wonder who’s being roped in for the female leads opposite these high profile male star casts. Don’t be surprised if the Chopras ring Kareena’s door bell. After all it’s these gimmicks that make the film. As for us, we will surely like to see some young and healthy doing the Dhoom on screen!

Hit Impossible
With two failing heroes and a borrowed storyline, Yash Raj Films’ new film, Pyaar Impossible, written by and starring Uday Chopra, seems a long shot for the movie giants. Its saving grace, however, could be the feisty Priyanka Chopra.The leading lady says, “It was the script that made me agree to do the film. And believe me, once the audiences see it onscreen, they are going to love it. Also, it is the kind of film that everyone can relate to. I related to it, and that’s what made it so exciting.”
More about the storyline that she connected with, Priyanka says, “The plot is about a geek and a beauty, and how love between them is impossible because they are so different. How could this guy get such a beautiful girl? It’s a very, very sweet film shown from the point of view of the character Abhay, played by Uday. This girl enters his life, but he can’t even talk to her because he feels that he is not good enough.”
Having recently broken up with long-time boyfriend Harman Baweja and rumoured to be dating Shahid Kapur, does Priyanka find pyaar impossible in her own life? She says, “I don’t think so. Pyaar is not impossible for anyone; you just have to find the right person. It’s a very private thing, especially for me. But the day I find my love, I will declare it. As of now, I haven’t found him. Love is very important in my life, and I am very romantic.”
Pyaar Impossible, which also stars Dino Morea as Priyanka’s onscreen boyfriend, is being promoted through a unique concept: Yash Raj has set up a website, www.pyaarimpossible.in, letting fans keep a tab on what the cast and crew of the film are up to while they shoot. Priyanka says, “The whole site is dedicated to our shooting and what happens on the sets. Like, if I sneeze, you’ll see it on the web site because the cameras will keep shooting through the day!”
The film is said to have a similar plot to Notting Hill, the hit romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. “There is no similarity between the two films except that both movies feature a beautiful woman and a geek. Nothing else is similar,” says Priyanka. But we beg to differ; just like in Notting Hill, here, the ‘geek’ is a bookshop owner too.
On film, she might fall for the geeky guy, but in real life, Priyanka has moved from one hunky Bollywood actor to another. We asked her how important are looks as a criteria for a partner. “Personally, I believe that looks should not be the criteria for being with someone, and that is what the film shows as well. I mean, it’s easy to say that beauty lies on the inside, but I have seen men and women who have had good-looking partners and are heartbroken when they break up. So it’s not a question of looks, but how that person makes you feel. If they look good, that’s a bonus,” she says.
The film is directed by actor-turned-director Jugal Hansraj, whose last directorial venture was 2008’s Roadside Romeo. Shooting began in April, and now, Uday and Jugal have headed to Singapore and will then go to Bangkok for a one-and-a-half month shooting schedule.
Uday’s last film was the multi-starrer Dhoom 2 in 2006. He has only ever acted in Yash Raj films, and Pyaar Impossible will mark a comeback of sorts for him. Dino’s last hit was Raaz, back in 2002.
