Reason? She’s one of those ‘safe’, selective eaters who sticks to basics and doesn’t experiment with anything whatsoever. Ostrich? And she shook her head. Oysters? No No! Octopus? And she almost screamed. Not even crocodile meat, which is served so regularly there? And she grimaced. “I love food. I’m a big foodie. And I can eat at any hour. But I’m not experimental at all,” she giggled. “Give me my daal-roti-chaawal and some basic fish and chicken and I’m fine. I can’t imagine eating crocodile and stuff — eeeks!” Well well well. We understand the lady’s concerns and her preference for safe foods. But then what kinda foodie are you Ms Shetty? Huh? Though honestly, the way she’s looking nowadays (read: like a million bucks) she must be eating right. Sure, sure Raj K agrees.
Shilpa's a 'safe', selective eater

Raj Kundar and Shamita throw Shilpa a surprise party
Shilpa Shetty celebrated her 34th birthday yesterday with a surprise party thrown by beau Raj Kundra and sister Shamita.Says a family friend, "Shamita and Raj have been planning the bash for a month. Nobody in Mumbai was allowed to talk to Shilpa as they did not want the secret to be out. In fact, Shilpa didn't even know that Shamita had flown in to London on Sunday to celebrate her birthday. When Shilpa saw her sis, she squealed in delight!"
The friend adds, "The party was at a swanky hotel in London. Shilpa loves the place because of the magnificent view of London and their food. There was also a performance by Escala and the British pop girl band Sugababes at as they are Shilpa's favourite groups.
The party was attended by Shilpa's and Raj's VIP guests, close family and some dear friends. There was a huge chocolate cake and Raj and Shilpa popped a bottle of champagne."
Says the source, "Shilpa's family gifted her diamond jewellery as those are her favourite stones."
Shilpa’s busy 'doing nothing'
She’s all but disappeared from the big screen. Last year, the beauty’s only appearance was in a song with John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in Dostana, and this year doesn’t seem to be any different.
“I have ventured into a lot of things like cricket, yoga DVDs, spas, but films will be my first love. However, the fact remains that I haven’t been offered any interesting roles. The kind of work that I would like to do now or fit into is hard to come by. And the choices that are in front of me aren’t tempting enough,” admits Shilpa matter-of-factly.
Added to her woes is the arrival of a new crop of actresses who ensure that the senior lot find fewer roles coming their way. “I have done everything from comedy and action to serious films, but for how long can one keep doing the same thing? There’s something called screen-age! As a producer I understand why others choose the new crop,” she admits.
But it’s always been that for the Bollywood hottie and candidly she continues, “I could take up Big Brother, which proved to be a turning point in my life, only because I wasn’t busy with any other project. That’s the reason I never question anything. But look, I have yet carved a niche for myself without films.”
So, at the moment, Shilpa’s busy “doing nothing” in London. She’s waiting for the recession to end before she dons the producer’s hat in Bollywood. “I needed a break after the IPL,” she says, denying that she’s licking her wounds after her team’s dismal loss in the Twenty20 tournament. “Everyone wants to win, anyone who says they don’t — is lying,” says the actress. “Next season, I’ll pray harder.”
Shilpa Shetty goes to London to take a quiet break
IPL was stressful for the team owners. First, Priety Zinta took off by herself to LA; it is now learnt that Shilpa Shetty is unwinding in London with beau Raj Kundra. The actress will return to India after celebrating her birthday (June 8).Says the actress, "I am doing what most women love doing in London shopping! It's something I hardly had time for when I was in South Africa for the IPL, as we were busy travelling. The weather is fantastic here. Raj and I have been going out a lot."
The actress isn't sulking or depressed with her team Rajasthan Royals' disappointing loss and subsequent non-entry into the semi-finals, "I am a very positive person and don't take these things to heart. It's upsetting to lose as a franchise but I can say without bias that RR played some of the most thrilling games with miraculous wins, upsetting losses and some fantastic scores we got the highest and lowest scores. It was our duty to give unconditional support to our team. We did that."
Shilpa's sudden backing out of performing at the IPL finals raised eyebrows. Shilpa says, "I think it became a big deal because Lalit (Modi) made an announcement that I would be performing on stage, so people expected me to. I had told them that if I would do the act if I found time to rehearse it properly.
I would be performing in front of millions and I can't do just anything on stage. It would be a thakela act, so I opted out. I'd rather not perform than do mediocre stuff." Are you listening, Katrina???
The actress says she's tired of travelling, "I am taking a week's holiday in London till my birthday as I have been travelling for more one and a half months now."
The best birthday gift? "I think that would be to be let alone doing my own thing without constantly being under public scrutiny ,and that's what Raj and I are doing right now in London."
Shilpa Shetty 'shines' on Vogue cover this month
If you were to guess the name of the cover girl of the latest edition of Vogue, the above line would definitely make sense. Not just for the reason that it's from her debut film but also because it suits her more than to anyone else this season. With her IPL team Rajasthan Royals' not making it to the finals, Shilpa Shetty did face a defeat recently. But, not the one to sob, Shilpa is raring to go and how! She can be seen sizzling while looking her curvaceous best on the cover of the recent edition of Vogue.
If the title 'The Business of being Shilpa Shetty' is anything to go by, then, it's totally needless to say that the story angle is surely tilting to more of Shilpa - the businesswoman as compared to Shilpa - the actress. Validating this is none other than her 'Prince Charming' Raj Kundra, who says "I saw the international appeal Shilpa had and suggested she make a brand of herself. She's taken to business like a fish to water. I call her India's Martha Stewart".
While talking about the change in her life, Shilpa says, "I like the idea of reinventing myself, of moulding and enhancing one's personality...I am not someone you would call a conventional beauty". To read more about Shilpa - the businesswoman, pick up the latest copy of Vogue.

Déjà vu: Shilpa Shetty graces the Vogue Issue this month and it got us thinking about the same blue theme used on Bipasha’s cover last year. Did you think we wouldn’t be able to tell!
Hard on Cricket: Hard Kaur got into her cricketing gear at the Big 92.7 office and rapped away to cheer on the T20 team.

Starry tantrums: Shiney Ahuja refused to be photographed at the Summer collection launch of Riyaz Gangji’s line, to the extent that his P.R. had to message him and coax him into it. When did he start to believe that he’s part of the A-brigade?
Lunch? Cyrus Broacha has collaborated with McDonalds to host a new show to tickle your tastebuds and anything with Broacha is bound to be a laugh riot for sure!
Shilpa's no show makes Katz's party!
The upset at the IPL finale on Sunday at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg was not just restricted to the playing area where Adam Gilchrist’s team beat Anil Kumble’s.It also spilled over onto the “spectacular” closing ceremony (as was broadcast from South Africa) which viewers in India felt was terribly mismanaged and lacked punch.
The story goes that Shilpa Shetty, who sportingly stayed on for the final even after her own team was knocked out, was slated to dance with American R&B artiste and hearthrob Akon. The Bollywood beauty even said as much on her blog. But, after the winning run had been scored and the celebrations began, what did we see but Katrina Kaif in an awkward shuffle with the singer.
According to Shilpa, she didn’t get time to rehearse for the performance. But then, neither did Katrina. The feisty and in-demand Katz was supposed to make a quick exit after going on stage with Akon and blowing kisses to the crowds. Instead, she stayed on for a forgettable ten minutes struggling to hip-hop with the singer.
“It wasn’t supposed to happen!” said the actress the morning after the event. “I was to dance to Jai Ho with Shiamak Davar. That’s it.” But minutes before she could go on stage, Katz was informed she had to dance with Akon. “I was like... zapped! Not only because I was not prepared for it, but also because I’m Akon’s biggest fan. Just sharing the stage with him would have been a dream come true. And there I was dancing with him. It was an exhilarating experience.”
‘Dancing’ is a word people who watched the two on stage, would not care to use to describe their crazy gesticulations. But, really, Katz and Akon met seconds before the curtain went up on them. “As we ran out he asked me what we’ll do for the audience. I was numb and clueless. So we just improvised and did what we wanted to,” Katz admitted.
What's happening in Bollywood Town!
Cover Girl: French actress Kalki Koechlin who wowed us with Dev D has landed her first magazine cover in the form on MW. We love the doll-like leggy beauty's Scottish checks trousers and jacket look. It's smart and sexy.
Hot and Sizzling: The bootylicious Miss Shetty shows off her curves with aplomb on the latest issue of Vogue. This is her first cover for the magazine.
Showing Off: Looks like Raima Sen is going the Riya Sen way and showing off some skin. At the CPAA, she was all covered but here she prefers to show off some cleavage. This isn’t bad (her shirt is a tad tight and make up a tad overdone) but we like her natural, traditional avatar better. Every actress wants to look sexy, but she should stand out from the rest.
Doll: Minishha Lamba looks like an adorable doll in the very yellow skirt and frilly white shirt that shows off her womanly frame. We like the girly look.
Doing Casual: With her bangs and dimples, Gul looks adorable too, and the scarf brightens up the dress, but we wish her sandals weren’t so boring
United: Aftab, Sohail, Aamir Ali, Chetan Hansraj and Cyrus Broacha were the men in blue who played a charitable match opposite a team of doctors to raise money for the Cancer Patients' Aid Association
Men in White: Funny men Javed Jaafrey and Govinda were the guests at the event
Revealed: Actress Ragini, of Radha ki Betiyaan fame, plays Bharti in the new serial, Bhaskar Bharti
Shilpa Shetty licked by a giraffe
The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals co-owner Shilpa Shetty says apart from cricket she was completely smitten by the wildlife experience in South Africa."I did a safari in Singita, a thrilling hot air balloon trip, went to the lion park and actually played with the cubs, something unusual. It was amazing to see a wild animal in such a vulnerable playful state," said Shilpa who was in South Africa for IPL matches.
"I fed ostriches and got pecked by one! And also fed a giraffe, they have the longest purple tongues, wrapped it around my hand, leaving its saliva all over it, eeow! But what fun," the actress posted on her blog.
Shilpa Shetty turns down Akon
Shilpa Shetty was supposed to perform with the American R&B star Akon at the IPL finals on Sunday night. But she decided to opt out at the last minute. When contacted Shilpa explained, "I was just not prepared. It was an international platform, not some village nautanki. I had to be fully ready. And I just didn't get time to rehearse. So I regretfully had to say no. But I'd rather not give anything less than my best when I'm representing my country."
Shilpa says she was happy to be just a spectator at the finals. "So what if my team wasn't playing. I think I'm sporting enough to enjoy the game as just a part of the audience."
Deccan steal IPL show amid the glitz
The transplanted Indian Premier League finished in front of a capacity crowd with a blaze of fireworks and an array of international entertainers headed by Guyanan rock star Eddy Grant. The Deccan Chargers took the title with a six-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final, but throughout the 37 days of the tournament in which 59 matches were played, the cricket shared top billing with the lights, music and cheerleaders that were part of the IPL package.
Arranged at short notice in South Africa following security concerns because of elections in India, the IPL captured the imagination of South African sports followers.
The opening weekend in Cape Town, with two double-headers on successive days, was sold out. So were the semi-finals, in Centurion and Johannesburg, and the final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
In between, near-capacity crowds attended many of the games, attracted by low prices, the glitz and glamour of the tournament, and the chance to see most of the world's best players in action.
The unpredictable nature of Twenty20 cricket was shown when Bangalore and Deccan, who filled the last two places on the log in the first IPL in 2008, reached the final.
Even on 2009 form that was a surprise, because they beat the two teams that dominated the round robin stage, the Chennai Super Kings and log-topping Delhi Daredevils respectively.
Conditions were different in South Africa from those in India last year, with bowlers having a bigger say on late-season pitches that offered assistance to both seam and spin bowlers.
Even so, it remained a batsman's game.
Matthew Hayden, the powerful Australian left-hander who retired from international cricket in January, was Chennai's mainstay as he topped the tournament run-scorers list with 572 at an average of 52.00 and an impressive strike rate of 144.81 runs per 100 balls.
Another former Australian player, Deccan captain Adam Gilchrist, played the stand-out innings of the tournament when he slammed 85 off 35 balls in the semi-finals to get his team past Delhi.
Left-arm opening bowler RP Singh of Deccan Chargers was the leading wicket-taker with 23 at an average of 18.13, but many of the most effective bowlers were spinners, led by Bangalore captain Anil Kumble, who finished with 22 wickets, including four for 18 in the final.
Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was a consistent performer for Deccan and experienced international bowlers like Muttiah Muralitharan and Harbhajan Singh were consistently economical.
While much of the focus was on established international stars, the tournament provided a platform for young Indian players such as Bangalore's Manish Pandey, 19, who became the first Indian to hit a century in two seasons of the IPL.
While Deccan leapt from last place in 2008 to the title in 2009, defending champions Rajasthan Royals failed to reach the semi-finals, with former Australian star Shane Warne unable to inspire his comparatively modestly-funded teams to another triumph.
Much of the early focus was on Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta, all co-owners of franchises, but none of their teams did particularly well.
Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders finished an embarrassing last, winning only three out of 14 matches and Khan returned to India early in the campaign.
Zinta's Kings XI Punjab were squeezed out of the semi-finals on run rate, while Shetty's Rajasthan were sixth.
In the end, the cricketers were able to claim centre stage.

Rajasthan Royal players in a movie with Shilpa Shetty
Rajasthan Royals, winners of the Indian Premier League's (IPL) first edition, are not only a hit with the cricket-loving public of South Africa. Thanks to their cricketing flair and good-looking team members, they have attracted the attention of Bollywood too.Producer Bobby Bedi has approached a few Rajasthan Royals players, including Shane Warne, for a movie along with the team owner, Shilpa Shetty.
Says Shilpa, "It's a film with some of the RR players. This was discussed before I became co-owner. The project is under review because of the shift in venue to South Africa. They would have shot some bits during the camp if the IPL had happened in India."
A source reveals, Bedi was always very keen to do a movie with Shilpa, but couldn't find the right script. The producer has finally come across the script that not only suits the actress, but also the Rajasthan Royals' captain-cum-coach Warne. Bobby met Shilpa during her visit to Jaipur after this year's Rajasthan Royals team was finalised. They also had a dinner meeting to discuss it."
According to the source, Bedi is also looking forward to having other international players in the Rajasthan squad such as South Africa's dynamic captain Graeme Smith, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Morne Morkel as part of the cast. Among the Indian players, the filmmaker is keen to have Yusuf Pathan and Mohammad Kaif.
It is learnt that the script has cricket as the backdrop but not as its main subject. Shilpa has heard agist of the script and will work on it after the IPL matches.
Bedi was also present at Shilpa and beau Raj Kundra's party along with their players at Hotel Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur.
Shane: The nick's Hollywood
One of Shane Warne's nicknames apart from Warney and Suicide Blonde (coined by Warne's former teammate Greg Matthews after INXS's big hit Suicide Blonde) is Hollywood for his exciting lifestyle and good looks. Now, he is set for Bollywood though!
Bobby kaun
Producer Bobby Bedi's earlier films include Bandit Queen, based on the life of Phoolan Devi, which won critical acclaim at the Cannes Festival in 1994. His other project includes The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey, an epic on the rebellion of native soldiers serving under British rule in the late 19th Century. Bedi is also a strong advocate for the recognition and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
Shilpa's confused about clothes
The usually well dressed Shilpa Shetty was in a fix recently. We got to hear that the actress thought it would be really cold in South Africa and carried suitcases full of warm clothes. We got to know that the weight of the wardrobe-on-wheels came upto an astounding 40 kgs. She was clad in a Jodhpuri jacket when she got off the plane.
But to her dismay the temperature there turned out to be around 32 degrees. Well, looks like it’s time to shed those clothes Shilpa. We are sure no one would complain!
Bollywood Stars who gave Voting Day a miss
Thursday (30th April) saw quite a few Bollywood bigwigs take out time from their busy schedule to cast their vote for the Elections. The ballot centres in Bandra, Juhu and Andheri areas of Mumbai saw stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, the Bachchan parivaar, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar etc. troop in to cast their vote. However, there were quite a few B-town celebs, who in spite of being pretty active in asking people to vote decided to give the V-Day (Voting Day) a miss themselves. We brings you a list of a few Bollywood stars 'Jo Bolte Kuch Hai Aur Karte Kuch Hain'
Kareena Kapoor
Kareena was part of the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani encouraging citizens to go and vote. However, when the V-day came, Bebo was nowhere in the picture. Apparently, Kareena is shooting for Karan Johar's production along with Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi in the US of A and hence couldn't make it. Well, that certainly doesn't count as an excuse cos if Aamir and Shah Rukh could fly down from US and South Africa respectively for casting their Vote, Kareena surely could have. This is one Tashan of Bebo which failed to impress us one bit.
Shahid Kapoor
Kareena's once-upon-a- time 'good friend' Shahid Kapoor also didn't make it to cast his Vote and this despite him being in town. We really don't know the reason why but considering Shahid's 'good friend' Priyanka Chopra was also missing, we cant help but wonder if they were upto something Chup Chup Ke.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra was full of emotions encouraging people to go and vote in the special video created by Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani. However, when the V-Day came, the actress was conspicuous by her absence. PC…we all are keen to know more on What's your Reason rather than What's Your Raashee?
Salman Khan
Sallu was here, there and everywhere during the pre-election campaigning; hence it was indeed extremely surprising that the actor after encouraging people to go and Vote decided to give V-day a miss himself. The actor apparently was busy shooting in London for his film Veer at a time when he was most 'Wanted' in Mumbai to cast his vote.
Imran Khan
It was Imran Khan who came up with the idea of making a special video asking people to vote. Imran along with Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani gathered some of B-town's biggest stars for this initiative but when it was his time to Vote, Imran himself couldn't get his finger inked. The Reason: Imran was not eligible as he is an American citizen. Poor Imran indeed couldn't practice what he preached so hard.
Preity Zinta & Shilpa Shetty
Bollywood beauties Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty also didn't make it to cast their vote. They were busy cheering their respective teams 'Kings XI Punjab' and 'Rajasthan Royals' at the on-going IPL matches in South Africa. Looks like they didn't realize that the opportunity to vote comes only once in 5 years unlike the IPL which is an annual event
Deepika Padukone and Asin
The South Indian babes Deepika Padukone and Asin couldn't vote in Mumbai as Deepika is originally from Bangalore while Asin is from Kerala. Hope these two beauties at least have voted in their respective home town.
Akshay Kumar
Akki was among the other B-town celebs who gave Voting a miss. The star was busy shooting for Priyadarshan's film De Dhana Dhan in Singapore. Akki when you can travel from Chandni Chowk to China in 3 hours you surely could have come down from Singapore to Mumbai and exercised your right to vote as a responsible citizen.
Ajay Devgan and Kajol
Probably the biggest shocker comes in the form of Ajay Devgan and Kajol who were busy holidaying in Goa and didn't find it necessary to come down and cast their vote. Ajay what's the point in doing a film on Rajniti when you can't even come and vote for the leaders in whose hands lies the future of our country?
IPL prevents Shilpa from voting
Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has flown to India from South Africa to cast his vote in the 2009 general elections. Actress Shilpa Shetty regrets that she won't be able to exercise her franchise this time because of the Indian Premier League (IPL)."I just regret the fact that I won't be in India to cast my vote; I really wanted to this time. Elections have to be taken seriously if you are a responsible citizen. Unfortunately with the unexpected turn of events and the IPL being shifted to SA it's become difficult. I would not miss voting for anything otherwise," the actress posted on her blog.
"But to all those Indian citizens who want the best for our country, now is the time to make the decision, don't waste your democratic right to choose. Vote!" she added.
Shilpa is the co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals team of the IPL.
Shilpa’s wedding date fixed
Shilpa Shetty’s mother normally travels with her where ever she goes. In fact, she has been her constant companion throughout her career. So no wonder she is currently with Shilpa in South Africa for the IPL T20 tournament.
Boyfriend Raj Kundra’s mother also happens to be there these days.
So when Shilpa and Raj were in Durban, where their team Rajasthan Royals was to play a match that eventually got rained out, the two moms ended up having a meaningful meeting in Cape Town.
Apparently, they discussed their children’s marriage at length and even zeroed in on the marriage date.
Though she is not giving out the exact date as yet, Shilpa says the moms did meet and fix the match, and her marriage to Raj will be in early 2010.
All's fair in love and cricket, says Shilpa
But match against friend Shah Rukh's team will be emotionally difficult for herBollywood actress Shilpa Shetty whose co-owned Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals faces her friend and superstar Shah Rukh Khan's team Knight Riders in Cape Town on Thursday (April 23), says "all's fair in love and cricket" despite it being a "difficult" match emotionally.
"We play on the 23rd in Cape Town against the Knight Riders, that will be a difficult one, not the match but the emotion... it's terrible to play against a friend's (Shah Rukh Khan) team but all's fair in love and cricket, I guess," Shilpa posted on her blog on Wednesday (April 22) from South Africa.
"Hope we have luck on our side this time... I've realised winning in this format (Twenty20) of the game has a lot to do with luck as well," she added.
Shilpa Shetty will drive a Lamborghini
Raj Kundra is going all out to pamper his lady love, Shilpa Shetty. The man has a passion for fast sports cars and now he wants to share it with Shilpa. He will be gifting her a suave Lamborghini since they duo loves their sports cars.
Since Shilpa loves zipping around in his Lamborghini, Raj wants her to have her very own in India.
We just hope she doesn’t zip around too fast here.
Shilpa Shetty shines in 'Hi! Living'
One such initial 'resultant' is in the form of the latest issue of 'Hi Living', which has got Shilpa 'Miss Long Legs' Shetty, on the cover. Keeping up with the extreme pace of the game, Shilpa drapes herself in some exquisite clothing, thus raising the temperatures on field as well as off it! One must say that, the Shetty girl has really gone all out to promote her team 'Rajasthan Royals', with a music video et al.
Making this month's issue of 'Hi! Living' a must read is Shilpa Shetty and her style quotient that can give the even the most glamorous of the models a run for their moolah!
